Kwa Maritane

Ever see anything so unique that one can’t find the words to describe it? Ever been awe struck by Mother Nature in all her raw wilderness and beauty? Welcome to Kwa Maritane, the big game reserve a few hours outside of Johannesburg. SA.

Over 125,000 acres of God’s finest work — home to lions and elephants and zebras and rhinos, and giraffes. They barely glanced towards us as we sat in the safe confines of ranger vehicles. The irony? They roamed freely, while we sat in cages!

A pride of lions walking down the dirt road, just a few feet from our ride. Two rhinos munching away  at the underbrush, stopping for a second to note our presence. The massive elephants frolicking in the water. The giraffes posing for perfect pictures in the dying light of a memorable evening.

These beautiful animals are simply gorgeous. Seeing them, in their natural habitat, moved me in ways that is difficult to describe. Sometimes, nature changes your life and makes you feel insignificant — we are merely a speck on God’s beautiful earth.

As I head back into the city, a part of me secretly wishes I too could have the luxury to roam freely without a care in the world. As I drive towards the city, the jungle I left behind is as real as as it gets.
