Learning from My Dogs

Dog-in-hat
In a profound moment of genius, my wife blurted:

The more I get to know people, the more I love my dogs.

For those of us who have had the privilege to love these fur babies, it’s all about unconditional love. Is that truly ever possible between people? No agenda, no manipulation, and certainly no ulterior motives.

My dogs are always happy to see me. I wonder if they understand the concept of time? They are  equally excited to see me whether I come home from an overseas trip, or step out to grab the mail. They don’t fool me though — I think they feign affection because I am generous with the “treats”.

Heaven forbid, I think my wife has made me into a dog lover.

Even though they are completely dependent on us, sometimes we depend on them. They have taught me a lot about love, about not watching your waist line (read FAT BASSET who loves to eat) and about going down hard when my head hits the pillow.
