Look Beneath the Surface

Sometimes the people who get the credit don’t always deserve it. Behind the scenes are people who do a bulk of the work, burn the midnight oil, and use creative talent while getting little or no recognition.

“Your job is to make me look good,” I told Rebecca Dearth many years ago. She has gone above and beyond and never failed me in that quest. Becka, was a shy undergrad in my class over a decade ago, served a two year stint as my graduate assistant while finishing her MBA, and now is the President of ‘our’ consulting company.

A brilliant marketing mind, Becka is among the top 10 students I have taught in a 25 year teaching career. While most students would be delighted with that compliment, Becka wanted to know why she was not the TOP student. I am not sure I ever answered that question.

I have received numerous accolades for the ‘look’ of the blog and the incredible pictures that accompany my writing. The curtain call for the look and feel of the blog goes to Becka for her superb effort and talent. In reality, I am not sure the words I write would have been as meaningful without the pictures that bring them alive. Thanks Becka for a job well done, and for making me look good.

Maybe we can all be more sensitive to, and complimentary of, the contributions of those who may not be as visible. Without these talented people our effectiveness may wither.
