Luck and Integrity

“Bet $20 on number 13 on the Roulette table for me,” I told Brandy Wellmaker, my afternoon supervisor at the Montessori, as she headed to Vegas for a much needed vacation. I gave her the $20, never expecting to see it again.

A week later Brandy called, gushing, “YOU WON, YOU WON,” her excitement visible, even over the phone. “You are the luckiest man I know.” Not sure I would go that far, I thought to myself, but we all get lucky once in a while. My winnings? $720, and I never even went to Vegas!

I was less excited about the money, and very moved by the integrity of this young lady. How easy would it be to put the money in her pocket? How many people would exhibit this level of integrity? What would you have done?

I am glad she is on my team. Good people are difficult to find.
By the way, we shared the spoils — and that really put a smile on her face!
