A mega conglomerate that started as a cooperative almost a century ago, Migros Switzerland defines the essence of responsible management. Migros is one of the world’s only fully vertically integrated companies that controls close to 90 percent of its supply chain from manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and retail, across a multitude of industries.
Corporate America should learn a lesson or two from this wonderful company. They pay their people a more than fair wage, give generously to their communities, and cap their annual profits with an eye towards allocating excess profits to reducing prices for their customers. Different. Novel. Unique.
One more thing — there are no performance bonuses for their senior executives. Just a handsome compensation package with an expectation of high performance. American CEO’s of the top companies rake in millions while their people struggle to make ends meet. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.
I walked away very impressed by Migros’ commitment to their values and their mission.
They share their wealth and their team members take tremendous pride in the work they do. Impressive company. Wonderful people. A constant eye on the ball.
A sure-fire formula for success!
