Minimalists in the Workplace

It baffles me that some people in the workplace are minimalists. They take no initiative, and have to be constantly told what to do.
To make matters worse, they are reactive in their approach and they make silly mistakes because they are not passionate about their work.   What is truly unfortunate is when someone with charisma and potential chooses the path of least resistance. It would be worth holding them by their shoulders and shaking them awake.

Eons ago I worked with a colleague whose entire day was driven by his watch. He made certain to take his “snack break” exactly at the same time, shuffled papers with alarming consistency, and left work at 5pm on the dot.  A few months later they let him go.

Building a team is about surrounding yourself with people who share a vision, a passion, and a work ethic where you can have each others’ back while working towards a common goal. Building an effective company is about surrounding yourself with the right people, and paycheck workers need not apply.
