A new model for global education is here to stay. Free, open online courses are offered by some of the leading educational institutions of the world through Coursera, a learning platform that houses courses across a myriad of subjects taught by global authorities.
I admire those that have a love of learning — for learning sake. There are those who are driven by acquiring degrees, with a minimal focus on learning. It always troubles me when grades take a precedence over intellectual growth, and professional advancement, not learning, motivates enrollment in college.
I am excited to sign up for a 6 week course on “Irrational Behavior” this summer, particularly intrigued by behavioral economics. My daughter, Jasmine’s, tongue in cheek remark? “I thought you were an expert in the area.” Score one for her!
Challenge the status quo, step out of your comfort zone, and pursue your love of learning. The world will then truly be your oyster.
