The students are back and campus is bustling with activity. There is a certain vibrancy during the first week of classes —nervous freshman (dressed to the hilt), crowded cafeterias, and students everywhere.
Each new school year brings new hopes and aspirations; a renewed commitment to working hard and new goals for the year ahead. And we can’t forget the proverbial beer — a staple at college campuses everywhere.
In this youthful chaos of campus life I feel the excitement of a new school year too. I am starting my 24th year at The University of Tampa… a place that has been more than home to me. I too established new goals for the year ahead. I plan to work harder, challenge my students and make a positive difference in these young lives.
The beauty of my job is that in the past 24 years, by peer group has always been about 20 years old (give or take a few years). Maybe that’s why people say I am young at heart. Look who I hang out with most of the time! Unfortunately my “old” body did not get the memo, as the aches and pains just get worse every year.
Tomorrow is my first day back in the class after a long summer. I promise to make a difference in the lives of these young men and women — one student at a time. I love my job! Now how many of you can say that?
