Nurturing Growth – Celebrating the Life of a One year Old

The Southshore Montessori School celebrates its first birthday today!

Next week close to a hundred children will dress up in their Halloween costumes and ‘sugar up’ to the delight of the candy companies. 300 days ago, we were holding our collective breaths as this new enterprise went through an uncomfortable period of growing pains. The process of waiting and watching created a nervous energy, each day that the numbers didn’t add up. Today we look back with pride at our ‘toddler’ as it starts to move in the right direction.

What does it take to build and sustain a new business from the ground up?

Nurturing the growth of a business is alarmingly similar to raising an infant baby. To start with, a focused vision, an emotional commitment, long hours and many sleepless nights. In addition, good planning, and a family of trusted advisers who allow one to keep his eye on the ball certainly help. Ultimately, a company is only as good as the people who work hard everyday to nurture the customers, nurture each other, and believe in a cause.

Running a business by proxy, purely as a money making initiative, is no different than having a baby and giving it to the neighbors to raise – it doesn’t work.

Foster growth by being fiercely protective of your baby business and don’t forget to cherish the memories.
