The Zoom boom is alive and well. Online classes, Vidgrid instruction. All of us , students and faculty cocooned in our little worlds trying to survive the onslaught of this new world order.
Lost in all of this is the close personal interaction between student and teacher. We miss our kids. Yes they may be 20 somethings, but they are still our kids.
Teaching and learning is supposed to be about close interaction. Looking people in the white of their eye — teaching, nurturing, guiding, mentoring. So much of this is lost in this online world. At best, it is a poor substitute for why I got in the business — to touch and mold lives. And see them blossom into stars.
The old way will eventually come back. In all this online convenience, I hope we don’t lose the human element. Technology is at best a poor substitute for a warm hug.
