Our Violent World

The haunting crackle of gun fire from a distance.
Human lives scattered like lifeless leaves.
The grounds covered with the remnants of dreams and hopes.
In a flash, the ugly finality of death.
And ruined lives of those left behind.

Peace in our violent world, is a mirage.
Political rhetoric rings hollow.
Like the shells from weapons that steal precious life.
Orphans can’t comprehend the madness.
Parents bury their children in a bewildered state of mind.
No final goodbyes; no closure.
Just open wounds that will never heal.
And broken hearts that will always hurt.
