prague

Prague is among my favorite cities in the world. The breathtaking Prague castle sits majestically on a hilltop, as if it was watching over its subjects that mingle in this walking city defined by its architectural masterpiece of ancient buildings and cobblestone streets.

The Czech Republic continues to distance itself from its socialistic past and the fundamental tenets of capitalistic enterprise continue to sprout in the form of hundreds of bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops that line the old town square. The Czech’s are the largest per capita consumers of beer in the world. We certainly did our share to contribute to this fact!

Among the locals, new business is creeping in slowly, though the need to make a fast buck has created an environment where ethics and integrity can be fleeting.  “They don’t understand capitalism,” a leading educator pointed out to our group. The taxi drivers will give you a run around if you are not careful. Global brands are visible everywhere, probably positioned more to the tourists than to the locals.

Most of all, I love the energy and small town feel of Prague. I enjoyed Pariszka street, the old Jewish Cemetery, the Old Town Square, and the Charles Bridge — historic landmarks of this beautiful city. I know I will be back.

Thanks for the memories.
