Professional Competence vs. Interpersonal Skills

Good companies ensure that their people have a good job and skill fit. I ran into an Office Manager at a community bank who is clearly competent on the banking side of the house, but does not have the people skills required for the job.

It’s difficult to provide excellent customer service, when the person responsible for the task prefers to bury herself in paperwork and shun the interaction. I think good organizations owe it to their team members, and their customers, to find the right people with the right skill set, for the right job.

When was the last time you called an electrician to do a plumbers’ job, even though their tools kits might look similar? Time to plug the leaks and clean up the operation!
