Red Tape

red-tape

“Let’s build bureaucratic walls, and ensure that nothing gets done.”

This is probably the unspoken truth spoken at federal, state and county offices to create bottlenecks to progress. I wonder if they are trained to be unresponsive?

You develop real estate to county approved plans, jump through hoops, and then even more hoops, and then you hit a wall. Landscaping inspectors measure plant heights using a ruler to meet the 18 inch specs (they have got to have something better to do with their time) and the fire marshall adds another 12 smoke detectors that go beyond what was in the approved set of plans. Why? No explanations necessary.

I feel that some people create work to justify their existence. We have some of those at my university too. Incompetence is not the exclusive domain of public servants.

All is done. Now we wait, and then wait some more, for a certificate of occupancy.

The reason for the delay? None.

Patience is truly a virtue.
This is public service at its worst. The irony? We pay their salaries.
