“We” lost a dear friend today. Rest in Peace Dear Beenu, as your pain and suffering is now over. “We” were a group of close knit college friends at The University of Delhi. A bunch of teenage guys and two girls who spent three very special years together. Our bonds have only gotten stronger over time. Our friendship crystallized by the ability to pick up exactly where we left off, irrespective of how long we go without talking to each other.
Beenu was one of the girls, who was ‘one of the guys’. That’s a huge compliment in our world. She was crazy smart. “She was a fighter and a beautiful person….full of life, pure at heart,” Joydeep reflected. She loved hard rock, the good times, and loved hanging out in our ‘hostel’ rooms. Her laughter, like her personality, was infectious.
I met her only a few times after we left college, but we did speak occasionally to reminisce about the good old days.
She fought cancer for almost a decade, and finally passed peacefully surrounded by those closest to her. My heart goes out to her family, and her loved ones. The world lost a good one today, way too early, though I have a sense that the party in heaven has just begun……….
