Those that embody a deep sense of gratitude have a way of touching our hearts. Meet Shardul, a young man with the world as his oyster. He sat in my classes, worked hard, and was like the proverbial sponge, which is the dream of every educator.
He recently reached out to me to reconnect. We grabbed a coffee the other day, and I was more moved by Shardul the man, than the professional. He communicated a deep sense of gratitude for what he had learned and how far he had come from an insecure young man to a seasoned pro. I was particularly touched by his love for, and loyalty to, his family and his desire to go back to his native India to be close to them.
Today, he is a successful digital marketing expert, with a corporate job to boot. The Professor and the Dad in me were equally proud — for his professional competence and his values as a man. I sense that Shardul just got started and the best for him, lies ahead. My rewards as an educator keep piling up. My heart is full, and my spirit is uplifted.
