Snakes and Ladders

snakes-and-ladders

The children’s board game raises its ugly head in our adult world. The corporate ladder is real — a never ending quest to get ahead without consideration of those who get left behind, or those who get hurt. Fortunately, we are, to a degree, insulated in academe by these shenanigans.

And then there are the snakes. Those that have an apathy for loyalty, and bite the very hands that feed them. We live in a self serving world, and we are occasionally let down by those we count on for support. And that is why my circle of engagement continues to shrink.

Let’s leave the games for children, where every one wins and nobody gets hurt. Sometimes, it’s better to not grow up.
