Working in a University environment, I am surrounded by students seeking degrees that can help define careers and lives. As an educator, I believe that learning goes way beyond tests, grades, and pieces of paper that might celebrate academic achievement. With all due respect to my “A” students, In my organization, I would prefer a solid “B” student who is street smart and has attitude — every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.
In the past, I was very impressed by people with advanced degrees, until I got my own. Now, I am impressed by those that are driven by an insatiable curiosity to learn more, to think outside the box and challenge the status quo.
Good education should be about a pursuit for knowledge, about getting better every day, and about pushing the envelope. The truth? You don’t have to be in college to stimulate your mind. Never stop learning. Never stop growing.
As Mark Twain eloquently stated, “Don’t let school interfere with your education.”
