We rarely ever appreciate talented people, till they decide to leave and wave goodbye. Then we hustle — “what can we do to keep you? how can we make this worth your while?” By then, it is often too late. That ship has already sailed.
Good companies operate off the philosophy that no one is indispensable. Yet, they struggle to hold on to talent when it is in their own backyard. Finding good talent is expensive. Replacing it is even more daunting.
I believe in the age old adage — train people so they can work anywhere in the world. Treat them in a way that they never want to leave. Time to get to work.
