Who dives into their food, face first, with little regard for social decorum? Who pees aimlessly on every flower, tree, hydrant and tire as if there was an innate joy in defining their territories? They are perfect canine vacuums that anxiously await, and secretly pray, that you drop a morsel on the ground.
Our four legged friends rely on us to take care of them.They clearly can’t take care of themselves! That task is specifically our domain.
In return, we get life lessons. An unwavering loyalty, from which we all can learn. We get wet kisses and an insight into carefree abandon. I wish we could learn to sleep, for extended hours, with never a worry in the world. Not sure our “bosses” would be too happy with that.
The million dollar question that begs to be answered: are our dogs the helpless souls, or is that a mantle for us to wear? They have us wrapped around their paws. In more ways than one.
