The Birthday Girl

Today, Becka turns — young. While most of you may not know her, you have seen her work. Becka manages this blog, the school website, and for the most part, is my go to girl for my life’s important professional tasks. Her key job — make me look good.

Becka was a student in my undergrad classes at UT, my grad student and my graduate assistant. She knows how I think. She knows what I want, and how I like things done. No ego, no confusion. Just a seamless integration of minds that think alike. If we ever have an argument, she always wins. No questions about that. I never stand a chance.

I often tell Becka that she is one of the top 10 students I ever taught in my 30 year career as an educator. She always wants to know why she was not in the top 5, or better still, number 1?  I have seen her blossom from a quiet college student into a savvy executive. Brilliant. Hardworking. Effective.

Happy Birthday Becka child. I am glad you came into my life. And seeing you flourish is one more reason I believe in the power of what I do in the classroom. Time to grab that drink to celebrate your many successes.
