Narrow streets dot this piece of paradise, on one of the 43 islands in the Galapagos, where marine iguanas and giant turtles make their homes. And when I say giant, I mean humongous. Some of these gentle giants weigh 700 pounds and live over a 150 years.
Make no mistake — this is their domain, and they allow us to share it with them. Maybe that was one reason why Darwin developed his theory of evolution in this piece of heaven.
The surrounding water is a deep, uncanny, blue. A color that is beyond any accurate description. Life here is slow paced, as if it is locked in an era long gone. I like it here. One gets the feeling of a small fishing village, untouched by the nuances of our high tech, high speed lives. Tomorrow we explore the islands and see more animals that share their world with us. I get a sense that this experience will stay with me forever.
