The Great Divide

The rich get richer and the poor — you get the picture. The poor in Cartagena live on less than $500 a month. Tin roofs dot the landscape across the bay. That’s where the have-nots reside.

Signs of poverty and broken dreams are stark and in your face. The tourist areas are filled with throngs of desperate vendors selling water and snacks, and hats. The rap artists entertain with the hope you will slip them a buck.

The rich live in  gorgeous high rise homes that pay homage to the beauty of the ocean. The economic  dichotomy is real. Hope only goes that far in bridging that gap. They will need luck, and a lot of divine intervention to cross the chasm.
