The Haters

They hide behind small screens, and even smaller keyboards, and spew venom. They are the “haters”. They spread misinformation and malign good people. It’s what they do.  They must realize that the world does not revolve around them — never has, never will.  At a time the world is in the midst of a war, and people are fighting for their lives, these people deal with “first world” problems like imbeciles.  

The truth of the matter, is that these “haters” are unfair critics. They blow up social media to their myopic circle of influence and never really get it, because they have never ever done it. 

My favorite quote, which is pasted on my office door, has been shared on these pages before. Teddy Roosevelt‘s retort to these “cold and timid souls” is the holy grail to get them to step into the arena, or to be quiet:

It is not the critic who counts, not the one who points out how the strong man stumbled or how the doer of deeds might have done them better.  The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with sweat and dust and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, if he wins, knows the triumph of high achievement; and who, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.
