The Hustle Factor

Welcome to Cartagena, Colombia. The hustle is alive and well. From the airport to the hotel, and in the streets, everyone is looking to help and make a buck. It’s what the need for money does to the poor.

They don’t make a lot of money. Probably around $1200 a month. They have to feed their families, and take care of their business.

Colombia reminds me a lot of the hustle in India. Lots of deal makers, and not a lot of deals to go around. I like the people here. Yes, they are poor, but they are simple. There is no “swindle” factor — not yet.

Tomorrow we explore the walled city and see what old town holds. Heard it is not for the faint of heart. The travel bug has bitten again, and while I take in the sights and sounds, I take a moment to count my blessings.
