The Need to be Right

right-or-right

Why is that some of us have the innate need to always be right?
Whether it is giving directions, making business decisions or collaborating on projects, this constant penchant to be ALWAYS correct is exhausting.

Two possible explanations, and one potentially meaningful solution:
The need to be right is typically driven by a position of authority in an organizational hierarchy, or a larger than life ego, that gets in the way. The solution? Attentive listening, getting rid of the blinders, and respecting other peoples’ point of view.

The irony is that accepting an alternative perspective or admitting we could be wrong makes us the better person. Besides, one key sign of human intelligence is an open mind. Right?
