I love Simon Sinek’s contention, that if you don’t understand people, you don’t understand business. Bull’s-eye. Such a simple concept, yet most companies don’t get it. Rather than nurture people, they tend to sacrifice them at the alter of corporate profits. People should never be the means to an end. Exploiting them should never be an acceptable business practice, irrespective of the cost.
I have a natural aversion for the word ‘employee’. Those that make organizations successful should be treated as internal customers of the organization. Empower them, get out of their way, and let them take care of the customers. That’s how business should be done. That’s how good companies create social capital, and make money – by taking care of their own people, and by building loyalty all around.
