Thomas Merton is one of my favorite thinkers. He was a Trappist monk that lived, died and is buried at the Abbey at Gethsemani. He lived most of his life in total silence – maybe that gave his thought so much depth and clarity.
The Abbey has a special place in my heart. As part of a three day “Silence Retreat”, I wrote my first blog post in their modest Library eight years ago. Today, this blog is my labor of love.
I have shared this perspective before, yet it is certainly worth sharing again:
“People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.”
THomas Merton
I hope you find the right ladder, and the right wall.
