The Scapegoat

It’s the oldest trick in the book. When things go wrong in the workplace, find a scapegoat and shift the responsibility. It’s a lot easier to assign blame than to take ownership of the consequences of ones actions.

The incompetent bureaucrats manage by proxy — have everyone else do the work. When it falls flat, point fingers. When it goes well, take credit.

Good organizations must get rid of these sycophants. Unfortunately,these people are usually in charge and drive good people away. And that’s how good organizations go bad.
