Much to my chagrin, I spent a few hours at the International Plaza with my wife, Rohini, as she shopped for shoes. I found a seat in a corner and observed the frenzy and bustle of activity as women capitalized on the “sale”. I have news for them: nothing is ever on “sale.” Mark-up, and then mark-down. It’s the oldest trick in pricing.
Ranging from $80-$1500 dollars a pair, the designers were capitalizing on brand equity.
The thrill of the kill was visible in the faces of the shoppers as they scooped up pair after pair of boots and heals that were so high they looked uncomfortable. Flash news: you don’t need boots in Florida! But try telling that to those that were swiping plastic, as if it was going out of style.
“Shoes can make you feel really good about yourself,” was a comment from a young lady. There should be a lot of very happy women in America, as they buy more than $32 billion worth of footwear a year.
I am slowly losing the battle of the shoes, as my closet space is being usurped by Rohini’s new obsession. I find the entire endeavor funny, yet charming.
As long as Momma’s happy, it’s all good.
Wise man. My hubby has also folded when it comes to the shoe topic. Oh and the Bags don’t get me started on the bags!
