We owe our children some respect. They model our behavior. They see what we do, and how we act, and then act accordingly. Monkey see. Monkey do.
When a rich, spoilt, naturally gifted athlete throws his life away by walking out on his team — my team — it wreaks of selfish self obsession. Kids are watching. We owe it to them to teach them about sportsmanship, about fighting hard to win, about being a team player, and losing gracefully.
The only way we teach these qualities, is by living our own lives on a higher plane. There is no middle ground with this — we have to shape up or ship out. Period.
