#thisis2016

china

The Asian American community in the US has rallied through a national initiative to highlight their experiences with racial encounters. An example of pathetically poor journalism was when FOX News sent a local reporter to China Town, in a big city. The reporter insulted, and poked fun at, older Chinese gentlemen and ladies who spoke little or no English. Insults do not make for comic viewing. Wonder how the reporter would fare if I interviewed him in Hindi?

The message of #thisis2016 is simple. In today’s day and age, racism should no longer be tolerated, or accepted. In reality, we know that racism is alive and well, and that ignorance and cultural stereotypes drive our thinking. The irony is that in this information age, with vast amounts of data, some of us bury our head in the sand and lose all our common sense. Maybe that’s what happens when the sand cuts off the oxygen supply to the brain.
