What does it take to be an Olympian?
There has to be a perfect blend between talent, countless hours of relentless practice, and a single-minded focus to be the best in the world. Years of preparation and sacrifice, countless hours of training, in the hope that it will all be good enough when it counts.
The sheer ecstasy of a dream realized is in sharp contrast to the broken hearts from coming up short. The emotions so raw that the eyes tell the story of every victory and every lost chance. I find myself celebrating with the victors and feeling the pain of those who do not succeed. Somehow, we can all relate and empathize with both ends of the emotional spectrum.
I marvel at their commitment to be the best. I am enamored by their athletic prowess and awe-inspired at their ability to do things that most of us can only dream about.
While most of us will never be Olympians, we can certainly be spirited competitors who play fair, work hard and never quit. That’s my game-plan moving forward.
