Unprepared

A young sixteen year old girl in India, was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her parents and family in a tailspin, unsure of what lies ahead.
Not sure any family, is ever prepared for the news of a cancer diagnosis. Particularly if that is for a child.

I vividly remember the look on Alan’s face as he stepped out of the Doctors office with the unthinkable news.  I remember Judi’s call informing me of her diagnosis. I distinctly remember sitting in an empty hallway talking to an empathetic surgeon about my sisters new reality, while she lay in the post surgical ICU.

Cancer is an ugly reminder  of the fragility of life. The battle ahead is never easy for the patient or the families who care for them.

Hug your babies close tonight. And make that call to those you love to tell them you love them.  Those that fight may lose the battle — however, we have to fight with them side by side, to help them win the war.
