I recently had a beer with a veteran law enforcement officer who had seen stark violence over a 30 year career.” We live in a violent world,” he remarked, “and violence is learned behavior.” Images in the movies and video games show blood and gore, and rake up millions — violence, like sex, sells.
One can do a thousand good things in the community and the press is really not interested. Brandish a weapon and the media is all over the ‘story.’ Overtime, we get desensitized to crime, and violence, and war.
I can’t comprehend the non stop fighting going on in the Ukraine and the Middle East. As the death toll mounts, the loss of life becomes just a number. I prefer not to take a political stand on the right, or the wrong. It is, however, deeply disturbing to see the loss of innocent life; women and children caught in the crossfire, in a war they know nothing about.
Why can’t we learn to talk, and engage in meaningful dialog?
Some day, I pray this violence ends. And Peace begets Peace…..
